Calista Kay Flockhart

Calista Kay Flockhart (born November 11, 1964) is an Emmy Award-nominated, as well as Golden Globe-, Screen Actors Guild Award- and Theatre World Award winning American actress, primarily on soap operas and television. She is best known for playing the title character of Ally McBeal (1997–2002). She now plays Sally Field's feuding daughter, Kitty Walker, on the hit ABC drama, Brothers & Sisters.Flockhart was born in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of Kay, a teacher of English, and Ronald Flockhart, an executive for Kraft Foods. She has one older brother, Gary. Her mother reversed her own first and middle names in naming her Calista Kay. (The name Calista comes from Greek kallista, meaning "most beautiful.") Because her father's job required the family to move often, Flockhart was raised with her brother in Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, upstate New York, and New Jersey. As a child, she wrote a play called Toyland in which she performed to a small audience at a dinner party.

Portia de Rossi

Portia de Rossi (born January 31, 1973) is an Australian actress best known for her roles as lawyer Nelle Porter on the television series Ally McBeal and as Lindsay Bluth Fünke on the television series Arrested Development.De Rossi was born Amanda Lee Rogers in Melbourne, Victoria, the daughter of Margaret, a medical receptionist, and Barry Rogers.

A talented student, she studied at Geelong Grammar School and Melbourne Girls Grammar School, then the University of Melbourne Law School, but left before finishing the course to pursue an acting career. She supports Locks of Love, a group that buys wigs for children with medical hair loss.

Her first significant role was playing a young and impressionable model in the Australian 1994 film Sirens. Soon afterwards she moved to Los Angeles and had guest roles on TV shows before landing a role in the film Scream 2. She attracted international attention when she joined the main cast of the Ally McBeal TV series in 1998 playing lawyer Nelle Porter. She remained with the show until its end in 2002.

She was born and raised with her brother, Alex Liu, in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York by Taiwanese immigrant parents.Liu has said that she grew up in a "diverse" neighborhood.Her family spoke Mandarin at home and she did not learn English until she was five years old.Her father was a civil engineer and her mother a biochemist in Taiwan, but they sacrificed those careers to come to the United States. Liu, at her parents' insistence, devoted her spare time to studying. She attended the Joseph Pulitzer Middle School (I.S.145) and she graduated from New York City's prestigious Stuyvesant High School in 1986.She attended New York University for one year, before transferring to the University of Michigan where she joined the Chi Omega sorority and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Asian Languages and Cultures.At one point, Liu worked as a waitress in Michigan.
